Parking Waiver for Nudy’s Cafe on Agenda for Conshohocken’s Borough Council

A parking waiver for Nudy’s Cafe is on the agenda for meeting of Conshohocken’s Borough Council on Wednesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. As MoreThanTheCurve.com previously reported, Nudy’s Cafe is opening at the former Light Parker building at the corner of West First Avenue and Fayette Street.

Almost all of the commercial buildings along Fayette Street have minimal or zero off street parking spaces. Because they can’t meet what the zoning code requires in regards to parking, each business when it opens has to obtain this waiver.

The waiver is a really a big waste of everyone’s time because they have to grant it because these properties never had off street parking and there is no place to add it. Not granting it would decrease the value of the property.

This is especially true now that there will be a 1,200 vehicle parking garage across the street once the SORA West project is completed. 150 of the spaces are dedicated to public use all day. The business downtown will also need to rely less on people driving since the hotel and a new office building will be added as well.

We recently stumbled upon a website that has a bunch of information about parking minimums and why they should be repealed. Locally, Phoenixville partially did this. It is an interesting idea.
