Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s Abby Boegner recently placed as a finalist at the International DECA Career Conference held in Orlando. DECA is a club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
At the conference, Boegner presented a marketing campaign for a local business to a panel of judges and prevailed over approximately 180 students from across the country to earn a medal. In order to attend the international conference and compete, Abby finished first at the state conference in Hershey.
Boegner’s project focused on promoting The Little Gym, a children’s gym in Lower Gwynedd Township that offers activities like gymnastics and dance. She created a campaign, titled “Ready, Set, Roll!”, which consisted of six activities designed to increase the gym’s enrollment rate and strengthen brand awareness. The activities included events like a Back to School Night, Instagram Raffles, Facebook challenges, Bring a Friend Week, and more.
“When presenting in front of judges, I always get pretty nervous when I’m waiting to present,” shared Boegner. “However, when I began my presentation, all the nerves subsided because I have practiced the presentation so many times and know everything about the project.”
Boegner was joined at the conference by Cayce Becker and Bailey Tobin. The Plymouth Whitemarsh DECA Chapter as a whole was also recognized for community service, CTSO advocacy, and public relations work. Beth Rickard serves as the advisor.
