Local police were busy on Christmas Day. The Plymouth Township Police Department announced on December 26th that it had arrested Omar J. Dickens for burglary and related offenses after police were called to the Lowe’s at The Metroplex in Plymouth Meeting (Plymouth Township) on Christmas Day. Dickens is a resident of Philadelphia and 52 years old.
According to the announcement, police responded to Lowe’s at 10:38 a.m. for a burglary in progress after Lowe’s remote security observed a man inside the store while it was closed for the holiday. When police arrived, they discovered a large rented box truck leaving the area from the garden center side of the store.
When officers attempted to apprehend the driver, the truck was driven into the side of a police vehicle, striking the driver’s side door. Dickens continued his attempt to evade police and eventually crashed the truck behind Giant in the same shopping center.
Dickens fled on foot and was discovered hiding a drainage pipe near the railroad tracks. He surrendered without further incident. Whitemarsh Police K9 Officer Jim Sweeney, and K9 Diesel assisted in the pursuit of Dickens when he fled the truck on foot. No injuries were reported following his apprehension.
In addition to the Whitemarsh Township Police Department, Plymouth Township Police were assisted by the Conshohocken Police Department, Norristown Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Dickens is currently awaiting arraignment at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
