During the August 7th meeting of Plymouth Township’s council, Council President Chris Manero stated that he and fellow board member Lynne Viscio had recently met with PREIT and Keystone Development + Investment about the future of the Plymouth Meeting Mall and the developers are willing to make a public presentation about the future of the mall. PREIT owns the vast majority of the mall property and Keystone owns a vacant office building adjacent to the mall.

During the public forum, there would be a presentation on the “next generation” of the mall property and would include a question and answer session.

PREIT is currently seeking zoning relief to replace the long-vacant former IKEA office building on the property with 300 apartments. PREIT is also currently appealing in court a previous zoning hearing board decision involving a larger apartment community on the same property. PREIT is also marketing a large portion of the interior of the mall to be used for office/life science space.

Keystone is currently seeking a special exception to convert the office building it owns into 150 apartments.

During a planning commission meeting that involved both of the current proposals for apartments, the members of the planning commission voted to not recommend either plan. Members of the planning commission also asked that the township and developers work together to develop an overall plan for the future of the mall.

No firm date for the public forum was discussed, but the hope was to hold it in September.
