Protest planned for January 8th at Covanta plant in Conshohocken

The Earth Quaker Action Team has announced that it will hold a protest at the Covanta plant located at 175 Academy Road in Conshohocken (Plymouth Township). The protest is scheduled for January 8th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Covanta plant has been a source of concern among some members of the community in recent years after a series of malfunctions. Those neighboring the facility reported a toxic odor and loud noises.

In addition to Covanta, the organizers are also targeting Vanguard due to its investment in Covanta’s parent company. From the notice for the protest:

Vanguard’s investments are hurting people and the planet. Vanguard was the second largest shareholder in Covanta Holding Corporation, the operator of the trash incinerator in Conshohocken, along with several other trash incinerators in the region, contributing to pollution in our region and beyond, before Covanta was bought by EQT Infrastructure, a private equity firm that recently acquired the waste management company.
