The Proving Grounds Studying Expansion

Montgomery County’s tourism organization, Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, is pushing sports tourism and hopes that someone will undertake the development of a major sports complex in the county. The reason behind the push for the complex is the estimated revenue that would be generated from hotel rooms, restaurants, etc., that would result from tournaments hosted in the county.

The Proving Grounds, located off Conshohocken Road next to Tee’s Golf Center, is already investigating expanding its sports facility. Currently the complex has four outdoor fields operational and two more under construction. There is also a small indoor field. Tee’s, which is under the same ownership, has a driving range, two mini golf courses and batting cages.

From the Philadelphia Business Journal:

Proving Grounds officials are conducting a feasibility study on a new climate-controlled building that will house either 12 hardwood basketball courts or three box lacrosse “rinks” that would also be used for futsal and field hockey.

“The addition of the indoor sports building to the outdoor sport field complex would make The Proving Grounds a ‘category killer’ for youth sports in the mid-Atlantic region,” Tornetta said.

The Tornetta mentioned in the above quote is Paul Tornetta of LFT Realty Group.

More to come.
