Recent sporting events in Montgomery County generate $7.2 million for local economy over single weekend

Montgomery County recently hosted 10,000 visiting athletes and families among multiple sporting events, including two national events: US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup and NXL Paintball’s Mid-Atlantic Major. Valley Forge Sports, a division of the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB) works to bring sporting events to Montgomery County.

The US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup was the single largest sporting event to ever come to Montgomery County. The tournament featured 120 teams made up of 2,500 players from the Northeast region competing at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting over a weekend in June. The tournament generated an economic impact of approximately $5.5 million.

In addition, over the same weekend in June, NXL Paintball hosted the third event of the 2023 National Xball League season in Royersford. The Mid-Atlantic Major has been known to feature the largest non-World Cup turnout of the season showcasing not only the best of the east coast, but some of the best paintball teams in the country. This event produced more than 2,000 hotel room nights and an economic impact of $1.7 million.

“Valley Forge Sports continues to show why Montco is a hotbed for all sports,” said VFTCB’s Director of Sports Jon Scheuren. “The destination provides everything a tournament needs to be successful and exactly what a family needs to have a great experience.”

Overall, Valley Forge Sports will host more than 10 national events in Montgomery County this year. The USA tournaments held in 2023 will generate a combined total of 13,500 room nights and more than $11 million in economic impact for Montgomery County.
