Recycling update for Whitemarsh Township

Whitemarsh Township’s trash and recycling service provider, J.P. Mascaro & Sons recently announced that you can put flexible plastics in your recycling bin. This is due to an upgrade in the equipment used by Mascaro that allows it to accept a wider range of materials.

According to Mascaro’s website, “Flexible packaging is made up of bags, envelopes, pouches, sachets, wraps, etc., made of easily yielding materials such as film, foil, or paper sheeting which, when filled and sealed, acquires pliable shape.”

This flyer (note that this version is for Pottstown, but a similar one was made available for Whitemarsh) details specific items that can now be recycled.

Now that more items can be recycled, doesn’t mean that they are actually getting recycled. Contaminated items (think unwashed takeout containers) can still lead to entire loads of recycling being, not recycled. So you basically need to wash and dry the items in your recycling bin if you want them to make it through the process.
