Rumors not true. Ye Olde Ale House in Lafayette Hill has not been sold and is not for sale

Over the past few days, two unrelated people gave us a tip that the Ye Olde Ale House in Lafayette Hill had been sold. We checked with owner Chris Bass and he shared that three people had asked him about the restaurant being sold and that is absolutely not true and it is not currently for sale. So continue enjoying the hand carved roast beef sandwiches.

The restaurant was purchased in 1987 by the late Bill Murphy, who also owned Murphy’s Tavern in Roxborough. Bass is the husband of Joanne Bass (nee Murphy). Together they have continued operating the restaurant.

Murphy purchased the restaurant from Peter and Angela Laspas, who took over the restaurant in 1978 from the original owner. According to Bass, the original owner owned a handful of ale houses in the region and sold them all off. The original owner’s name is believed to be John, possibly similar to Coniss.
