As 2023 ended, MoreThanTheCurve.com made some predictions for 2024. How did we do? Below we break down where we got it right and where we got it wrong.
- There will be a new proposal to redevelop the former Moore Chevrolet property in Conshohocken and it won’t involve a Wawa
- We got this one right, but we had no idea it would be from the Borough of Conshohocken itself. In 2024, the borough bought the property for a new public safety facility (article)
- The proposal from PREIT to construct apartments at the Plymouth Meeting Mall will move forward
- We got this one right. Plymouth Township amended its zoning code to make apartments allowable on the mall property through a conditional use application. While PREIT has yet to seek that conditional use, the mechanism for apartments to be approved is in place (article)
- The election of independent Ralph Frey to Conshohocken’s Borough Council will lead to more Democrats changing their registration to Independent and running outside the party system
- We were a little early on this one. There weren’t any municipal elections in 2024, but we will stick with this prediction for 2025 (when there are municipal elections)
- A handful of Democrats will challenge State Senator Amanda Cappelletti (D) in the primary to represent Pennsylvania State Senate District 17, which includes West Conshohocken
- We got this one wrong
- A large apartment building will be proposed on the West Conshy side of the river
- Technically, we were wrong about this one. One was floated but has not officially been proposed (article)
- There will be a conversation started to create a proper downtown area in Lafayette Hill
- We were wrong (Whitemarsh is obsessed with the riverfront)
- Conshohocken won’t move forward with a traffic diet
- We were wrong. The borough council is still pursuing this idea (article)
- Conshohocken’s Borough Council will cave to SEPTA and others seeking to bring more apartments to the riverfront
- This one is a mixed bag. While the Borough of Conshohocken backed off its initial emphatic stance that no new apartments would be built, it signed an agreement with SEPTA that stated that while the borough council would not amend its zoning code to allow apartments, SEPTA could choose to seek zoning relief from the borough’s zoning hearing board (a much harder process) (article)
- A regulation pickleball court will be constructed in Conshohocken
- While one wasn’t constructed in 2024, two were approved as part of a wine garden along East Elm Street (article)
- Raising Canes will be the restaurant at The Metroplex
- We were wrong about this. When The Metroplex sought and was approved to add a restaurant space near the Guitar Center, it was during a period when chicken places were a hot concept. Chicken is still a hot concept, but nothing has moved forward publicly about The Metroplex constructing the restaurant building.
