The water main break and resulting sink hole has impacted gas service in the area of the 300 and 400 blocks of West 10th Avenue and a section of Colwell Lane. Overall, just under 100 properties are effected. The Borough of Conshohocken advises that the public avoid the area and that portions of the roads impacted have been closed.
The water main break occurred on February 11th at approximately 11:30 p.m. Aqua and PECO are on the scene making repairs. Aqua initially listed the potential repair time as lasting between four to 12 hours, but now, according to a notice issued by the Borough of Conshohocken, the overall disruption of service may now extended into Friday, February 13th.
In response, the Borough of Conshohocken has opened a warming center at the Community Center at the Fellowship House. Those impacted can charge devices and stay warm, while the work continues. However, the warming center is scheduled to close on Thursday evening at 9:00 p.m. So those utilizing it will need to find overnight accommodations.
You can read the full notice from the borough below:
Last night, an Aqua water main burst in the area of W. 10th Avenue and Colwell Lane causing a sinkhole which affected a PECO natural gas main. As a result, approximately 90 properties continue to have water and gas service interrupted in the areas of the 300 and 400 blocks of W. 10th Avenue and a section along Colwell Lane. Aqua and PECO teams are on site and remediation efforts have begun. Borough emergency management representatives are also on site. Remediation efforts and service interruptions may extend into Friday, February 13, 2026. Effected residents are welcome to utilize the Community Center at the Fellowship House located at 515 Harry Street as a warming center to stay warm, charge devices, and utilize Borough resources to make overnight accommodation plans as needed. The Community Center will remain open until 9pm this evening. Any extension of operating hours will be communicated as applicable. Affected roadways will remain closed indefinitely for remediation efforts. We recommend avoiding the area until further notice. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available. PECO and Aqua representatives will be in contact with effected residents. UPDATE regarding Colwell Lane –
We were asked by a reader to clarify the status of Colwell Lane. Through the borough we learned that the bottom of the sink hole has not yet been determined and the digging to locate it is moving towards Colwell Lane.
Due to that, Colwell Lane is a fluid situation. Currently it is passable and there are flaggers. However, this afternoon it may be closed and traffic will be diverted. For those traveling on Colwell Lane, use West 6th Avenue or West 11th Avenue to reach downtown Conshohocken. For those seeking to travel to Ridge Pike, use Brook Road. There will be a full update once the bottom of the sink hole is determined.
