Two milestones as new members of Colonial School Board take office

The Colonial School Board has three new members. Jamina Clay, William Winchester Jr., and Gail Plant were sworn into office during a December 1st reorganization meeting.

It is believed that the trio represent the first African-Americans to be elected to the board. This also marks the first time the board is entirely made up of members who were not endorsed by a political party. The winners of the recent election, and the election prior, did not seek a political party’s endorsement.

Four candidates were elected in the November election. However, Patti Donofrio, who received the most votes, decided to not take office. Donofrio’s decision leaves a vacant seat and the board is actively seeking candidates to apply for the opportunity to be appointed to the board. You can find details on how to apply here.
