On February 23rd, MoreThanTheCurve.com reported that the liquor licenses for the CHUBB Hotel & Conference Center and The ACE Club were in the process of being transferred to the Union League. At the time, no one from the Union League would comment, but the private club has now released a statement on its Facebook page. The statement reads:
The Union League of Philadelphia proudly announces Union League Liberty Hill as our newest Companion Amenity.
League members: Please check your email for a video message from President Mills.
“Union League Liberty Hill will enhance and expand the already amazing array of amenities and experiences that are available to us as Union League members. As I mentioned at the Annual Meeting, if we saw the opportunity to pursue one or more acquisitions in a way that was prudent, that would not jeopardize the overall financial health of the Union League and wouldn’t change by one day, or one dollar, the master plan for the renovation of the main house that President Davidson laid out for us last fall, we would seize those opportunities. Well, we have. The Union League of Philadelphia has purchased the facility known as the ACE Golf Course and Conference Center from the CHUBB Insurance Company. The property has been renamed Union League Liberty Hill to reflect not only our patriotic history and values, but also the fact that the ground was the site of a Revolutionary War battle field.”
We have not been able to obtain a copy of the video, but in the comments on Facebook, members expressed interest in an aquatic center and an equestrian facility that must have possible additions to the property mentioned in the president’s message.
More to come.
UPDATE – We have now watched the video. Possible additional amenity opportunities include an aquatic center (indoor/outdoor pools, water park, fast-casual restaurant), an equestrian center with a stable, racquet sports (tennis, paddleball, pickleball), and a spa.
