Update on car theft from 7-Eleven parking lot in Conshohocken

On March 2nd, MoreThanTheCurve.com reported on the Conshohocken Police Department seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect in a car theft from the 7-Eleven parking lot in Conshohocken that took place on February 28th. We now have more details.

According to court documents, police are seeking 41-year old Walter Dobson of Philadelphia in connection to the car theft.

In an Affidavit of Probable Cause, police state that the incident began just before 3:00 p.m. when a white Kia Telluride was reported stolen and that the vehicle was traveling down Fayette Street towards the Matsonford Bridge.

An officer attempted a traffic stop and the Kia took the ramp to I-76 towards Philadelphia, where it struck two vehicles and left the scene continuing onto the interstate. A Pennsylvania State Trooper discovered the Kia near mile marker 337.2 and a witness described the driver as a heavyset Black man wearing a puffy jacket and that he had jumped the center highway barrier and headed towards the railroad tracks.

Security footage from the 7-Eleven show a man meeting the same description departing the store with potato chips and Gatorade without paying. He then is observed standing on the corner of East 6th Avenue and Fayette Street as the Kia parks in front of the store. The owner of the Kia leaves the car running with the keys inside while in the store. The man in the puffy jacket than approaches the vehicle, tries the door handle, enters the vehicle, and departs the scene at a high rate of speed.

As of March 4th at 5:30 p.m., the court records show that Dobson has not yet been arrested. The charges listed are the felonies: Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Prop, Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Retail Theft-Take Mdse. In addition there are a series of lessor charges involving traffic violations and the striking of the two vehicles.
