Whitemarsh Township police announce arrest of 19-year-old man after shooting in Miles Park in Lafayette Hill. Two groups of females met in park to fight

Whitemarsh Township Police Chief Christopher P. Ward on November 18th announced the arrest of 19-year-old Devin Burns, 19, of Glenmore on charges connected to the shooting that took place in Miles Park in Lafayette Hill (Whitemarsh Township) on November 13th.

Police were called to the park and a nearby home on November 13th at approximately 10:45 p.m. The first report involved a disturbance in the park’s gravel parking lot, followed by a call about someone banging on the home’s back door.

Officers first went to the home and found an 18-year-old man from Hatboro with a gunshot wound to the pelvic region. Police and medics from the Whitemarsh Community Ambulance aided the victim who was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital. he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

When additional officers arrived at the park the participants in the reported disturbance had departed the scene. Officers recovered a single shell casing at the park.

The investigation into the disturbance and shooting determined that two groups of young adults, ages 16 to 19, had arranged to meet at the park for two females to engage in a fist fight related to “boyfriend issues.” When the groups arrived at the park, the two females fought, and more females joined the confrontation. Sometime during this altercation, police believe Burns used a handgun to shoot the victim. Approximately a dozen people are believed to have met at the park. Burns and the victim were members of opposing groups.

The following day, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers, with an arrest warrant for Burns, sought to arrest him in Chester County. Burns fled and led the State Police on a chase through six jurisdictions. When the State Troopers were finally able to stop Burns, he intentionally rammed an occupied State Police vehicle prior to being taken into custody. A firearm was recovered from Burns’ vehicle.

Burns was arrested and charged by the Pennsylvania State Police for the incident involving his effort to evade arrest. He was arraigned in Chester County, and his bail was set at $150,000 cash. Burns could not post bail and was remanded to the Chester County Correctional Facility. Detainers were filed for the charges in Whitemarsh Township and by the Chester County Probation Division.
