The Montgomery County Commissioners announced this week that 15 projects in the county will receive Montco 2040 Implementation Grants, totaling nearly $2,500,00. The county grant program assists municipalities by making targeted physical improvements that achieve real progress toward the goals of its comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared, and the plan’s themes of Connected Communities, Sustainable Places, and Vibrant Economy.
According to the county, projects that addressed one of three focus areas for 2023 received heightened consideration. Those areas included: Walk/Bike Montco – Trails, Paths, Sidewalk Connections and Bike Facilities; Downtown and Community Destination Support; and Adaptation and Resiliency.
Locally, $200,000 was granted to Whitemarsh Township to construct a pervious trailhead parking lot with 24 parking spaces and an ADA-accessible trail segment and trail bridge at the intersection of Wells Street and Cedar Grove Road. The parking lot will provide off-street parking to reach numerous destinations including Spring Mill Park, a county-owned park, the Schuylkill River Trail, and future connections to the Cross County Trail.
