Whitemarsh Township’s Board of Supervisors to consider creating multiple four-way stops in Cedar Heights neighborhood

On the April 11th agenda for the Whitemarsh Township Board of Supervisors is a proposed ordinance that would establish four-way stop signs in six locations in the Cedar Heights neighborhood of the township (in the Conshohocken zip code). The need for the four-way stops was determined through a traffic study that was conducted by the township’s police department.

If you are not familiar with the term “Cedar Heights,” it is a residential neighborhood that is bound by North Lane and Cedar Grove Road. If you are driving down North Lane from Butler Pike, the neighborhood to the left is Cedar Grove.

The intersections that the study found could benefit from four-way stops are:

  • Hillcrest Avenue and Wells Street, stop sign on Hillcrest Avenue
  • Roberts Avenue and Wells Street, stop sign on Roberts Avenue
  • Summit Avenue and Wells Street, stop sign on Summit Avenue
  • Wells Street and Hillcrest Avenue, stop sign on Wells Street
  • Wells Street and Roberts Avenue, stop sign on Wells Street
  • Wells Street and Summit Avenue, stop sign on Wells Street

The study examined the number of vehicles traveling through on certain roads in Cedar Heights, the average speed of vehicles, site-lines, weight of vehicles, etc., against the standards of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices from the Federal Highway Administration. You can read the full study here (starting page 14).

The meeting of the board of supervisors is scheduled for April 11th at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the township building at 616 Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill.
