Whitemarsh’s Miles Park reopens with new playground and more

A ceremonial ribbon cutting on Saturday celebrated the official reopening of the playground at Miles Park along with resurfaced basketball courts which are also lined for pickleball.

Joining the township’s elected officials and staff for the reopening ceremony was the Montgomery County Down Syndrome Interest Group, the township and nearby police departments and K-9 units, the Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company, the Spring Mill Fire Company, and the Whitemarsh Community Ambulance. Following the ribbon cutting, there were demonstrations from the K-9 units and a picnic lunch.

The Magical Miles Park Playground features an inclusive and accessible new playground area and a solar cell phone charging station. Work included surfacing, installing pedestrian walkways, installing playground equipment with required safety surfacing, providing ADA access, landscaping, installing a project sign, installing benches, and making related site improvements.

The basketball court renovation included surfacing and painting the courts to include pickleball lines, stormwater management, two accessible entrances, bleachers, trash receptacles, new light poles, and LED energy-efficient lights.

The projects were funded in-part by Community Conservation Partnership Program grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Whitemarsh Township.
