Whitemarsh’s Planning Commission voted to recommend townhouse community at Spring Mill Avenue and East 10th in Conshohocken

A plan to build 19 townhouses on two adjacent properties at Spring Mill Avenue and East 10th Avenue in the Conshohocken section of Whitemarsh Township was before the township’s planning commission on October 12th.

One important thing to note. Townhouses are a permitted use in this area of Whitemarsh Township. The discussion was not whether they could or could not build townhouses. The planning commission was reviewing the plan and considering whether eight waivers sought by the developer were appropriate.

The plan includes 19 townhouses that were designed with the industrial history and nature of the neighborhood in mind. They will all have rooftop decks.

The waivers were for minor things (read them here on page 12) and some were due to the existing condition of the property. For example, the existing sidewalk is right up against the curb and the zoning code requires space for trees between the sidewalk and the curb.

The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Supervisors the approval of the waivers and the approval of the plan.

The Shade Tree Commission has also reviewed the plan and voted to recommend it. The developer agreed with the commission’s input on the plan and will make an $11,000 contribution towards additional trees to be planted elsewhere in the township.
