Wind storm led to brush fire along Militia Hill Road that spread into state park

First responders were called to the scene of a brush fire along the 300 block of Militia Hill Road in Fort Washington (Whitemarsh Township) on Saturday, March 1st, at 5:16 p.m. The fire was caused by down wires caused by high winds.

The Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company reports that upon arrival it found “arcing power lines and a tree in the roadway, along with a large brush fire spreading into the Ft Washington State Park.” Firefighters worked to suppress the fire until PECO de-energized the lines and the fire was able to be extinguished.

Also responding to the scene were the Whitemarsh Township Police Department, Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association, PennDOT, Whitemarsh Townshup Public Works, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and mutual aid fire companies of Spring Mill Fire Company No.1, Harmonville Fire Company No.1, Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2, Norriton Fire Engine Company, Centre Square Fire Company, Fort Washington Fire Company No. 1, Oreland Volunteer Fire Company, Flourtown Fire Company, and Lower Providence Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.
