Youth sports facility seeking zoning relief in Plymouth Meeting. Township’s planning commission votes to recommend

Max Power Sports Center is seeking zoning relief to open an 80,000 square foot youth sports facility at 105 Lee Drive in Plymouth Meeting (Plymouth Township).

The business currently operates out of a 30,000-square-foot building in King of Prussia, where it offers youth baseball, volleyball, and badminton training.

The issue was before the township’s planning commission on February 5th, when representatives of the business discussed with the commission members its plan for parking, what the business would offer at the new location, and needed zoning variances. The planning commission’s role is to review the application and then can offer a recommendation to the township’s zoning hearing board, decline to do so, or take no position.

In regard to parking, the business has entered into agreements with two hotels within walking distance to serve as the host hotels for any tournaments held at the facility. According to the businesses’ representatives, this would handle additional parking resulting from tournaments. During the weekdays, the available on-site parking is believed to be adequate.

The three variances needed are for the use of the property (as a recreational facility), parking requirements, and building coverage.

The planning commission voted to recommend to the zoning hearing board grant the variances. The zoning hearing board will consider the issue on a future unannounced date.
