After almost 20 year run, Robin Gupta has sold Guppy’s Good Times in Conshohocken

After an almost 20-year run, Robin Gupta has sold Guppy’s Good Times in Conshohocken. Gupta bought Pat’s Bar on September 5, 2005, and officially changed it to Guppy’s several months later.

Gupta attributed the sale to his move to Florida and his desire not to have to travel as frequently and to be away from his wife and two young children. He opened a Guppy’s location in Longboat Key in 2024.

But don’t worry, the good times will continue.

The new owners are Rick and Gale Mahoney, who also purchased Pizza Time/Old Time Saloon in 2023. Guppy’s is their third acquisition on Maple Street. Before purchasing Pizza Time/Old Time, the Mahoneys purchased the adjacent building that had been Don Len’s longtime home to house their collection of muscle cars. In an interview with MoreThanTheCurve.com, the Mahoneys offered that the widely successful Guppy’s will stay Guppy’s. The name and menu will be retained, and the biggest change they intend to make is installing a new bar top.

Gupta shared with MoreThanTheCurve.com:

It has been 20 great years in Conshohocken, and I am beyond thankful to everyone who has ever walked through Guppy’s doors. It was a pleasure to feed, cheer, and celebrate with so many of you. We made many memories together, which I will cherish. Guppy’s is in good hands with Rick and Gale.

For two decades, Guppy’s has been a staple in the Conshohocken community known for its signature Conshy Crush cocktail, pub fair, BOGO sushi on Tuesdays, live music, and numerous charitable events, which have raised thousands of dollars for a variety of causes.

Gupta shared that his first charitable event was in response to the 2008 fire that devasted an under-construction apartment building (now Lumina) and the adjacent portion of the Riverwalk Apartments. Guppy donated all the proceeds from the event night to the impacted residents. Tony DeFazio, who lived at Riverwalk and was the spokesperson for the tenants after the fire, shared, “I experienced his generosity firsthand when Riverwalk Apartments suffered the devasting fire. Robin was the first to step up in Conshohocken to organize a fundraiser to help tenants get back on their feet.”

The Preston & Steve Show’s Kathy Romano was a regular at Guppy’s Good Times and even has a menu item (The Kathy Romano Wrap) named after her. She shared, “When I moved to Conshohocken in 2005, Robin quickly became one of my first friends. Those orange walls [in Guppy’s] witnessed countless Corona Light nights, spontaneous dance parties, and our legendary all-day 80s dance bash.” She went on to say, “We celebrated everything there, including a friend’s bachelorette party to most recently my 20th anniversary with The Preston and Steve Show.”

Musician Jamie Salvatore shared a story about one time when the bar was actually closed. One of the first bookings he ever had as a musician was at Guppy’s. After his first album was released, he was notified that one of his songs had been added to TouchTone, the digital jukeboxes found in bars and restaurants. It was early morning, and he went to Guppy’s and found Robin alone doing paperwork. They blasted the song and listened together, just the two of them. A moment Salvatore says he will never forget.

Gupta has plans for a series of events as he prepares to hand the reins over. On March 22nd, there will be a fundraising event for Janie Carbo, a local girl born with a rare genetic disorder called MIDAS syndrome (Microphthalmia, Dermal Apalsia, Sclerocornea). On March 23rd, it will be Gupta’s “Last Hurrah,” with music all day from Dave Duong and Tim Williams. More details on these events will be forthcoming.
