The George Washington Wood Bed & Breakfast, located at 201 East 5th Avenue in Conshohocken, has been listed for sale for $3.2 million. The property was purchased and renovated in 2017 by Carol and Joe Rutkowski, who opened the bed and breakfast. Carol Rutkowski passed in 2020.
The building dates back to 1881, when George Washington Wood, the son of steel magnate Alan Wood, constructed it. While not historically protected, the home is described by on the Library of Congress website as “a good example of a high style house built for the industrialist elite during the late 19th century. The erection of houses such as this one represent the growth and prosperity of the area during the late 19th century, which served to extend the upper-class residential neighborhood southeastward.”
According to the listing on Crexi, the bed and breakfast is being sold due to the impact of the pandemic and other factors.
