BisNow.com Articles Explains Why Senior Housing Next to Plymouth Meeting Mall Makes Sense

Earlier this month, MoreThanTheCurve.com reported on a proposal to redevelop the office building adjacent to the Plymouth Meeting Mall into a senior living facility.

There were questions on whether this is a good idea or not (a high rise building being a home for seniors).

Today we came across this article in BisNow.com that reports on the changing business of senior living. From the article:

Gone are the days of sleepy, gated retirement communities in secluded, suburban settings. Millions of baby boomers reaching retirement age today are demanding a more urban style of living, and developers are beginning to respond.

“One of the things we’re seeing with the population over 65 is they want to stay in the heart of their community,” Mather LifeWays Senior Vice President Gale Morgan said. “Boomers are saying ‘I want ease of access, I don’t want to have to get in my car to go to the restaurant or the doctor.’ The urban lifestyle is getting more and more popular.”

While we wouldn’t call Plymouth Meeting urban, being adjacent to the mall provides access to many of things seniors need or want day-to-day.
