Borough of Conshohocken moving to require house numbers on the back of homes

The Borough of Conshohocken is moving towards requiring house numbers on the back of homes. The first step involves requiring it of only rental properties, which Borough Council will vote on during its December 18th meeting (7:00 p.m. at 400 Fayette Street).

The purpose of the requirement is to make it easier for first responders to determine the proper home from the backside of the property (especially the alleys).

From the Borough’s website:

The ordinance amends the requirements for residential rental properties in the Borough of Conshohocken by requiring the installation and maintenance of house numbers on the front and rear of dwelling structures used for residential rental unit(s).  The ordinance requires separate identification of each unit for structures with separate entrances for multiple units, and requires placement of the applicable house number on structures blocking visibility of the rear entrance, where applicable.  The house numbers required by the ordinance must be installed before a residential rental license may be issued or renewed.  The ordinance repeals prior inconsistent ordinances, and contains a savings clause and an effective date.

In the future, Borough Council will consider a similar measure for non-rental properties.
