Borough of Conshohocken to acquire fire house as it prepares for new public safety facility

During the April 2nd meeting of Conshohocken’s Borough Council, the council voted to approve an agreement with Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 to acquire the fire company’s fire house at 819 Fayette Street. The move follows the council’s 2024 decision to acquire the former car dealership property at 109 and 1119 Fayette Street and 1201 Butler Pike for $5.1 million to construct a new public safety facility that will be home to the fire company and Narberth Ambulance.

The agreement calls for the borough to pay the fire company $1 for the property. The fire company will continue using the current fire house until the new facility is opened, while the borough takes over the upkeep.

The agreement provides a 10-year window for the borough to open the new facility, or the fire company can reacquire the property at 819 Fayette Street for $1. During the meeting, Council President Tina Sokolowski stressed that the borough intends to open the facility much sooner than 10 years.

During public comment, a resident asked about the borough’s intention for the current firehouse property, and Sokolowski offered that, for now, it will become a borough asset and add to the borough’s borrowing power as it finances the new facility, and eventually, it could be sold.

In March, the borough council authorized an RFP to seek architectural design services for the new public safety facility.
