The Mary Wood Park Commission of the Borough of Conshohocken is holding a public meeting on Monday, June 12th at 7:00 a.m. at the Community Center at the Fellowship House. The commission invites community members to attend and discuss plans for a Centennial Event for the Mary Wood Park & House in 2020.
Mary Wood was the wife of Congressman Alan Wood, Jr., who was the son of iron magnate Alan Wood. After leaving Congress, Alan Wood, Jr, would become the President of the family business, Alan Wood Iron & Steel Co. The couple lived in the Woodmont mansion in Lower Merion, but after her husband passed away, she returned to Conshohocken and lived in the home that would become the Mary Wood Park House. She passed away in 1918 and deeded the house and property to the Borough for use as a park.
