Colonial School District cancels planned graduation ceremony and prom

The Colonial School District had hoped to hold a graduation ceremony for and prom for Plymouth Whitemarsh High School seniors in late July if the pandemic restrictions permitted such events. With restrictions still in place, the events have been canceled. Students and parents were notified via a letter from Dr. Jason Bacani, principal of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Below is the letter.

July 9, 2020

Class of 2020 Students & Parents/Guardians:

As part of our layered plan to recognize the special Class of 2020, we scheduled a commencement back up date on Colonial Field for Wednesday, July 29. In addition, Mrs. Delaney, Mr. Zehren and the Senior Class Officers secured a backup date for the Senior Prom on Thursday, July 30.

Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions set forth by the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, we have to cancel the events. Please know that the safety of our students, families and community is our primary focus. While our intention was to bring the entire class and families together on this date, this is not allowable under the current social distancing guidelines. Dr. Christian, the senior sponsors, administration and I will look to plan a “send off” event during either November or Winter break for our seniors (pending guidelines).

The entire team would like to thank you for your support throughout the extended closure as we planned the most exceptional way to celebrate our special seniors under these extraordinary circumstances. The diploma ceremonies captured on video as well as the Class of 2020 parade were memorable for all of us. We are so proud of all of our Class of 2020 graduates. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you need support as your son/daughter begins the transition to the next chapter of their lives. #PWProud!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jason Bacani
Principal, Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
