Last night Conshohocken Borough Council member Matt Ryan (D) announced that he is resigning from council due to being relocated by his employer to Texas. Ryan works for Brixmor, a commercial real estate company. Ryan was elected in 2011 to represent Ward 5. He cast the only vote to approve the zoning amendment sought by Wawa.
Ryan had already announced he wasn’t planning to run for re-election in November and did not participate in the primary. Borough Council now has 30 days to make an appointment to replace him. Whoever is appointed will only serve into January, when the winner of the November election will take the seat.
Once Ryan officially resigns, Borough Council has 30 days to make an appointment to the seat. Democrats will hold a five to one majority and could pick someone to be a caretaker for the seat for a few months or could select one of the two people running for the seat in the November election. Running for the seat are Rosemary Northcutt (D) and Kevin McMonagle (R). Hopefully they take the caretaker route.
This is the third resignation from Borough Council since 2012. Carolyn Maye (R) (Ward 4) resigned in 2012. Raj Gupta (D) (Ward 1) resigned in 2014 and now Ryan. All three were newer residents, all resigned during their first term and all three moved out of Conshy. Something to consider when voters are speaking with the current crop of candidates.
Anyhow, if you want to rent the house of the only guy to vote for Super Wawa, Ryan is renting his house. You can view the listing by clicking here.
