Conshohocken resident Ralph Casper wins Division II National Championship in the shot put

West Chester University’s Ralph Casper recently completed a historic 2022-23 season by capturing the Division II shot put National Championship with a mark of 63 feet 2 ¾ inches (19.27 meters) in his fifth throw of the evening. He also placed fifth in the discus competition. Casper is originally from York but is currently living in Conshohocken.

Casper was also named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division Outdoor Track and Field All-America squad and earned First Team All-American status in both the shot put and discus.

Casper is the first West Chester male athlete to capture an Outdoor National Championship in the Golden Rams Division II era and the first West Chester student-athlete to claim a Division II track and field Outdoor National Championship since WCU Athletics Hall of Famer Julie Bowers Glavin won back-to-back 5K titles in the 1984 and 85 seasons. Casper is also the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference male athlete to claim a National Championship in the shot put dating back to 1963.
