Update on the status of the Plymouth Meeting Mall

In a Philadelphia Business Journal article on October 26th about the state of the Franklin Mills mall in Philadelphia, there was one line that provided an update on the status of the sale of the Plymouth Meeting Mall.

The same developer, Dean Adler, was seeking to acquire both malls and convert them into destinations for activities, such as youth sports, plus apartments, hotels, etc. The article focuses on the Franklin Mills sale not moving forward; however, it does confirm that, at least as of now, the Plymouth Meeting Mall deal with PREIT, the mall’s owner, is still active.

From the article:

He [Dean Adler] remains under contract to acquire the Plymouth Meeting Mall 23 miles away, with similar plans to turn that site into a mixed-use development with residential and recreational use.

Adler began publicly talking about acquiring the Plymouth Meeting Mall in November 2025, but as of now, there has not yet been any announcement that the sale has been completed, or presentations at public meetings, or notices about zoning relief or ordinances under consideration for the property.

Please note that Adler’s plan does not impact the entire mall property. What is thought of as the Plymouth Meeting Mall has multiple owners. For example, the area that was once Macy’s and is now Dick’s Sporting Goods, Miller’s Ale House, Michael’s, Edge Fitness, and Burlington is under different ownership. The same is true for Boscov’s at the other end of the mall, the office building just converted to apartments, and Whole Foods Market. Essentially, Adler’s plan involves everything between the bookends and some outlying areas.
