Conshohocken’s Borough Council to Interview Three Companies for Insurance Brokerage Business

On the agenda for the Wednesday, February 7th meeting of Conshohocken’s Borough Council is its contract for insurance brokerage services. It previously issued a RFP and is interviewing three insurance brokers from that process. They are:

  • Cohen Partners LLC
  • Keystone Insurers Group
  • Brown & Brown

Cohen Partners is the current provider of brokerage services to the Borough. Last year MoreThanTheCurve.com published an article in regards to the political connection that firm has with the Democratic Party in Conshohocken. Working for Cohen Partners is Jason Salus, a former member of Conshohocken’s Borough Council and currently the elected Treasurer of Montgomery County, who is also the Area Leader of the Democratic Party in the municipalities that make up the Colonial School District. In this role, he helps determine who runs, conducts fundraising, and organized campaign events.

After that article was published, a local business owner alleged that Salus called him, referred to the publisher of MoreThanTheCurve.com as anti-Semitic, and that continuing to advertise with MoreThanTheCurve.com would land the business owner on a list. You can read about the whole episode here.

In addition to the interviews, Borough Council could consider appointing one of the brokers to handle the Borough’s insurance and authorizing the Borough Manager to make it official by executing the Broker of Record Letter to authorize the selected firm to “represent the Borough in the insurance market for the Borough’s 2018 insurance renewal.”

The use of the word “renewal” is interesting. How do they know they are going to renew vs. go with a new option?

The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at Borough Hall at West 4th Avenue and Fayette Street.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
