Conshohocken-based DiGiacomo Brothers Specialty Food Company now offers delivery, shipping, and curbside pickup that it has traditionally offered to the Philadelphia region’s top restaurants. Its warehouse off East Hector Street is filled with specialty food items not normally carried by the larger food distributors.

“We had to adjust our business model in response to the pandemic,” stated owner Billy DiGiacomo. “The negative impact on restaurants is felt downstream by businesses like ours.”

While DiGiacomo Brothers is now happy to sell you retail sized portions of a food item, what really has them excited are the cooking kits they have put together such as Titans of Tomatoes, product assemblies such as Boards & Combos, and especially their Recipe Kitchen Kits created through collaborations with local chefs.

To be able to do this, the business had to invest in creating a commercial kitchen within the warehouse where it could cut and package ingredients. For example, its’ Just Add Bread package, which allows you to build your own prosciutto sandwiches at home, the prosciutto is sliced onsite and the Lioni hand wrapped mozzarella is portioned.

The first Recipe Kit is Penne Puttanesca created by Chef Drew Masciangelo of Savona Restaurant in Gulph Mills. The kit comes with penne rigate, San Marzano tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, capers, anchovies, pitted Castelvetrano olives, and Piave Mezzano (for grating). There are a handful of common items (like salt & pepper) and cooking wine not included. Coming up next will be Pizza Margherita by Chef Will Langlois of Bar Lucca and Bucatini all’Amatriciana by Chef Joe Cicala of Cicala at the Divine Lorraine.

The company was established In 2009 by brothers Billy and Matthew DiGiacomo based on their love of their Italian heritage and food. The duo had four grandparents all originating in the same region of Campania in Southern Italy. Matthew passed away in 2011 and Billy continues to carry on their shared vision.

Note that their facility is a warehouse, distribution center, and commissary.  Although you can’t visit the warehouse to shop, their local delivery zone covers most of Greater Philadelphia and they ship via UPS to the Mid-Atlantic states.
