Back on August 16th the Conshohocken Zoning Board heard a request to allow Ciavarelli Funeral Homes to build a crematorium on the 500 block of Fayette Street. No decision was made that evening and the request is now on the agenda for the Zoning Board meeting on October 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Borough Hall located at 720 Fayette Street.
I sort of stumbled into the last meeting due to it being the same night as The StoneRose requesting to build an addition for their kitchen. I really didn’t pay that close attention, but the basic concern is potential pollution such as someone who had just had chemo or treated with nuclear medicine. There is even a concern with older teeth fillings. The experts said everything is state of the art and all of these things shouldn’t be a concern for the public. Ciavarelli Funeral Homes currently offers this service, but outsources the actual process to a crematorium in Philadelphia.
The crematorium would be built in the same fashion as the current structure and would resemble a carriage house that use to sit on the property.
Moore & Snear Funeral Home of East Norriton and Conshohocken is also seeking to build a crematorium in East Norriton.
