Death of pedestrian along Butler Pike under investigation in Whitemarsh Township

Whitemarsh police are investigating the death of 81 year-old George Boyd of Plymouth Meeting who passed away after being struck by a vehicle on March 26th. Boyd was crossing Butler Pike along its 900 block on March 26th just after 8:00 p.m. when the incident took place. A landmark for this area is the water tower at the intersection of Butler and Skippack pikes.

According to police, a witness observed Boyd enter Butler Pike from the western side of the road and be struck in the northbound lane by a Mercury sedan. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.

As the incident took place along the border of Whitemarsh and Whitpain townships, police from both municipalities responded to the scene, along with Whitemarsh Ambulance, which transported Boyd to Abington Hospital.

The investigation is being led by the Whitemarsh Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit with the cooperation with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
