  4. Conshohocken’s premier personal fitness studio, Tone Zone, is excited to celebrate one member’s final chemotherapy treatment by raising money to help conquer the disease she’s been fighting for months: Ovarian Cancer. The event, which will feature cancer survivor Rebecca Baczor as guest cycling instructor, will be held on July 4, 2017 at 8 AM at Tone Zone’s Elm Street location, 701 East Elm Street in Conshohocken. For $25.00, participants will rotate through a 90 minute fitness class sampler, taught by some of Tone Zone’s best instructors (along with Baczor). The class will include RealRyder, Boot Camp/Trampoline fusion, a short fun-run/walk, and AFTERBURN, Tone Zone’s signature workout of VersaClimber, Woodway Treadmills, and TRX strength stations set to heart rate monitoring technology. Funds raised will benefit the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, a local charity based in Havertown, PA. This affair is the latest in Tone Zone’s “Fitness for a Cause” series, but this time, it’s personal. “We’ve held several charity events for great causes the last few years, but supporting one of our own in her battle with ovarian cancer is extremely important to us,” says co-owner and event organizer, Leslie Sorkin. “Becky’s positive attitude in the studio has always been impressive, but her optimistic outlook throughout her treatment is a true inspiration.” Baczor continues to attend complimentary Tone Zone classes throughout chemotherapy when her energy levels allow, and when unable, she cheers on fellow members through Tone Zone’s active social media community. Baczor, a nurse at Dupont, hopes this event will help bring attention to a type of cancer that is extremely difficult to detect. In fact, many symptoms of ovarian cancer seem like routine or common bodily annoyances, and only about 15 percent of cases are found early enough for treatment. “You would think, as a nurse, I would be in tune with the symptoms, but I just felt like I had some stomach issues,” says Baczor. Had she not experienced some uncharacteristic bleeding that led to a doctor visit, she may not have discovered the cancer in time. The Sandy Rollman Cancer Foundation reports that ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of death among women in the United States and is the deadliest of the gynecological cancers. "It is not a uncommon disease," Robin Cohen, CEO and co-founder of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation. "Ovarian cancer afflicts one in every 75 women." Historically the disease was called the "silent killer" because the symptoms were not thought to develop until the chance of cure was poor.  However, recent studies have shown this term is untrue and that following symptoms are much more likely to occur in women with ovarian cancer than women in the general population: bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, and urination urgency or frequency. “I hope this event will not only serve as a well-deserved celebration for Becky, but also as an eye-opener for women – and the men who love them – to be aware of the signs of ovarian cancer,” says Sorkin. Tickets cost $25 and are available at www.tonezone4me.com under the NEWS tab. You do not have to be a member at Tone Zone to participate.
