PA Treasurer Garrity, who is running for governor, receives endorsement from President Trump, Gov. Shapiro files amicus brief against Trump administration’s removal of slavery exhibits in Philly

Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who is vying for the governorship this year, has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Trump said she is a “true America First Patriot” while applauding her accolades in a Truth Social post yesterday. Garrity said Governor Josh Shapiro is “President Trump’s number one adversary” on X.com.

Their social media statements are below:

Garrity, 61, a retired U.S. Army colonel and former corporate executive, announced her bid for the Republican nomination in August. Pennsylvania Republican Party leaders endorsed her in September.

“I know what it means to serve,” Garrity said in her acceptance speech. “I know what it means to solve the tough problems impacting the lives of Pennsylvania families. So my message to families all across our great commonwealth: Help is on the way.”

Her election would make her Pennsylvania’s first female governor. You can visit her campaign website and watch her take the Oath of Office during a ceremony at The Forum Auditorium on Tuesday, January 21 below:

Shapiro files amicus brief against Trump administration

In related news, Shapiro has filed an amicus brief in support of the City of Philadelphia’s federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of the Interior and other federal entities after workers from the National Park Service removed slavery exhibits from the President’s House last week, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

On Tuesday, Shapiro said in a news release that Trump “picked the wrong city and the wrong Commonwealth”.

“There is no virtue in refusing to acknowledge certain aspects of our history because it is painful to do so,” the amicus brief says. “The removal of the slavery exhibit from the President’s House undermines this commitment and denies Pennsylvanians and others the opportunity to learn more about a part of our history that cannot be ignored.”

On Thursday, January 23, Shapiro accused Trump of “whitewashing” history in the post below:

Donald Trump will take any opportunity to rewrite and whitewash our history.

But he picked the wrong city — and he sure as hell picked the wrong Commonwealth.

We learn from our history in Pennsylvania, even when it’s painful.

The National Park Service, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and acting National Park Service Director Jessica Bowron were also included in the lawsuit. A hearing is expected to be held Friday morning, The Inquirer said.
