Fire at a chemical plant nearby in Upper Merion

Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire that is listed as a hazardous materials incident just before 5:00 a.m. this morning. The fire is at the Coopers Creek Chemical Corporation at 884 River Road in Conshohocken. Note that this is physically in Upper Merion Township near the intersection of River Road and Swedeland Road.

According to its website, Coopers Creek refines crude coal tar. Crude coal tar is a by-product of the metallurgical coke-making process. The plant had a fire in February of 2020 as well.
