Friday Steam Release at Covanta Plant Not Related to Malfunction

Friday afternoon the Covanta plant was venting steam which generates a loud sound and based on recent events, it looked like the plant was experiencing another malfunction. According to Covanta, that wasn’t the case. Below is a statement Covanta released to MoreThanTheCurve.com:

Today, during inspection and testing we released steam through a vent. The steam release resulted in elevated sound levels for a very short duration. Both boilers and the turbine generator remained online and are operating normally. There was no danger to the environment or public.

Note, that “Today” refers to yesterday.

We did not see any complaints about a smell yesterday, which over the past year has followed a malfunction at the plant.
