The Borough, joined by the Friends of Haverford/Haverford and Malvern Prep, broke ground on the Conshohocken Rowing Center behind the Riverwalk Apartments Sunday afternoon. The Conshohocken Rowing Center came together when the Borough was approached by a representative of the schools. The eventual deal had the Borough provided the land and the two schools provide the funding to build the boat house. The two schools have elite high school rowing programs and will operate out of 2/3 of the property and 1/3 will be dedicated to use by the Borough.
The most interesting thing that came out of the ground breaking was when Council President Paul McConnell mentioned a plan to create a recreation area (volleyball courts and bbq areas) between the boat house and where the dog park and helipad will be located. Basically directly behind Riverwalk Apartments, Londonbury Apartments and the Millennium office building will eventually feature all of these amenities for he community.
It will be interesting to see how the community aspect of the boat house will develop. Councilman Matt Ryan is working with the Fellowship House to develop a program to utilize the project for residents, etc.
Stay tuned…
