The Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Rides, a day of organized bike rides, will bring hundreds of cyclists to Montgomery County on Sunday, September 13. The event is not a race, but a series of recreational bike rides across Chester and Montgomery Counties. Organized by the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP), the event aims to promote physical activity while raising funds for local cycling-related organizations.
The single-day event offers seven routes ranging from six to 100 miles roundtrip. Cyclists can pass through historic covered bridges, Valley Forge National Historical Park and along the banks of the Schuylkill River in Montgomery County. Though the Scenic Schuylkill Century typically attracts pro cyclists, the BCP encourages people of all ages and cycling levels to participate. Two of the seven routes, the Betzwood and Phoenixville SRT Routes, are intended for casual cyclists. Four trails, including the Full Century and Covered Bridge Road Routes, are classified as difficult.
All rides begin and end at AIM Academy in Conshohocken, located on the Schuylkill River at 1200 River Rd. Coffee, bagels and fresh fruit will be available before each ride. Check-in for the rides begins at 7 a.m., and roll offs begin before 9 a.m. at the cyclist’s own pace. To ensure rider safety, the event will feature course support and safety measures. Support and Gear (SAG) drivers will patrol the routes and will be stationed at key locations for emergency prevention. Rest stops are also available at AIM Academy, the Phoenixville YMCA and Ridge Fire Company. Rest stops will offer water, fresh fruit and homemade baked goods for bikers to replenish their energy.
After the rides, there will be a celebratory pizza party at the finish line at AIM Academy! The event will be held rain or shine, and helmets are required for participation.
