Informational presentation for proposed apartments adjacent to Fort Washington Train Station on agenda in Whitemarsh

On the April 14th agenda for the Whitemarsh Township Planning Commission is an “informational presentation” by the Hankin Group for a proposed development concept, named ‘Village at Fort Washington’. It is described as a mixed-use project off Bethlehem Pike and adjacent to the Fort Washington Train Station. The Hankin Group is seeking input only, and there will be no vote.

In 2017 and 2019, another developer sought a text amendment for the same property to permit 200+ apartments. The planning commission voted not to recommend the adoption of the text amendment to the township’s board of supervisors, and the project never moved forward.

The Hankin Group’s proposal is for two four-story apartment buildings totaling 159 apartments. In addition, there would be just over 5,000 square feet of commercial space attached to one of the buildings, and a stand-alone dental office of just over 3,100 square feet. Based on the three pages made available with the agenda, there are also proposed improvements to the adjacent meadow, trail system, and a stream/woodlands corridor.

Neither the agenda nor the three-page presentation offers any details on how the Hankin Group will seek approval if it decides to move forward.

You can view the full agenda here (the section on the Hankin Group’s presentation starts at page 40). The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the township building.
