Jefferson Health announced during an April 10th press conference its sponsorship of the second-annual APGA Jefferson Classic, a three-day golf tournament taking place August 3-5 at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting. As the event sponsor, Jefferson is proud to partner with the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA), an organization dedicated to inspiring an inclusive future through the game of golf by fostering opportunities for underrepresented players in the sport.
More than 50 professional golfers are set to compete in the tournament, which will begin with a pro-am on August 3rd, followed by a two-day 36-hole competition on August 4-5, along with a kids’ golf clinic.
“We’re thrilled to build off last year’s successful inaugural event with this long-term commitment to the community,” said Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Jefferson. “Making golf more inclusive and accessible, especially for kids, and all the opportunities that come with that, will contribute to the long-term well being and vitality of our community.
Founded in 2010, the APGA is committed to providing opportunities, fostering talent, and creating an inclusive environment where African Americans and other minority golfers can thrive both on and off the course. By partnering with the APGA, Jefferson aims to expand its mission of promoting equity and access, extending beyond healthcare into sports and the broader community.
“We are looking forward to a tournament this year that is even bigger and better than the first APGA & Jefferson Classic last year,” said Solomon Hughes, Chief Operating Officer for the APGA. “We appreciate the support of Jefferson Health in helping make this a terrific event for our players and everyone in Philadelphia as we continue to provide opportunities to make the game of golf more inclusive.”
On the heels of a successful inaugural event, the APGA Jefferson Classic – part of the APGA Cisco Cup Tour – has grown to now include more than 50 competitors for a prize purse that’s grown to $40,000. First Tee – Greater Philadelphia, a youth development organization providing life skills through the game of golf – is a charity beneficiary of funds from the summer event. Former Philadelphia Eagle and current Eagles’ radio broadcaster Mike Quick serves on the board of First Tee and represented the organization at the press conference.
“The 1912 Club is excited for the opportunity to host the APGA Jefferson Classic,” says Brian Quinn, golf instructor and Owner/Managing Parter of The 1912 Club. “Our membership and staff look forward to providing a first-class experience for these talented players.”
