The Pennsylvania Turnpike has announced that starting the week of June 16th, it will demolish two toll plazas: Mid-County Interchange (Exit A-20) and I-276 Norristown Interchange (Exit 333). The following week it will began the demolition of the Lansdale Exchange (Exit A-31).
During the demolitions, the interchanges will remain open, however, there will be toll lane closures. Motorists are asked to remain patient, use caution, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and adhere to speed limits. Motorists should also pay attention for new signage and speed limits.
The demoliton of the toll plazas and the reconfiguation of the roaddway follows the introduction of Open Road Tolling (ORT) gantries east of Reading and on the Northeast Extension. In an ORT system, tolls are charged electronically as customers drive at highway speeds without slowing down or stopping beneath overhead structures — called gantries — located between interchanges.
