Mastrocola’s Philly Roast Pork Now Available to Retailers Nationwide

Wellshire Farms, a leader in the all natural and organic meat business announced this week a partnership with The Philly Roast Pork Company to distribute its all natural products to retailers across the country. The first item to be featured in this family-owned partnership is Mastrocola’ s Famous® Philly Roast Pork, an authentic seasoned fully cooked Italian roast pork, made from pork raised without antibiotics.

The genesis of The Philly Roast Pork Company is the result of a small chain of Italian delis that were located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, owned and operated by Mike Mastrocola, an over 60 year resident of Conshohocken who recently passed away (see his obituary).

Mastrocola, who was first a master craftsman in the shoemaking trade, immigrated at the age of 19 from Italy to the United States. In 1979, at the age of 40, his passion for great Italian food led him to open his first Italian deli and create the recipe for Italian roast pork.

Mastrocola’s original deli was in Plymouth Meeting. Today that deli is Fat Daddy’s at the corner of Germantown Pike and Plymouth Road. One of the other locations was at the corner of West 9th and Fayette Street in Conshohocken. That location later became Lenny’s.

“The Mastrocola family is thrilled with the local collaboration”, said Mike Mastrocola Jr., brand ambassador, who lives in Conshohocken. “We lost my dad in December at the age of 81, but he was very excited and actively involved in Wellshire Farms taking the Mastrocola’ s Famous® brand to the next level.”

“Wellshire is proud to partner with a local, family-owned company such as The Philly Roast Pork Company.” says Jessica Colameco, vice president of marketing for Wellshire Farms. “For over 20 years, Wellshire has taken great pride in assisting the local community and local entrepreneurs in any way we can.”

Mastrocola’ s Famous® Philly Roast Pork is currently available in the Philadelphia region at all of the locations of the Whole Foods Market in the Prepared Foods Department in Grab & Go packs, served on the Hot Bar, and on the Sandwich Menu. This includes the Plymouth Meeting location.
