Montco GOP leader has resigned. Possible Ron DeSantis event in Montco on Presidents’ Day

Elizabeth Preate Havey, who has served as the chair of the Montgomery County Republican Committee since 2018, has resigned from the position. In a series of text messages with MoreThanTheCurve.com, Havey confirmed her resignation and shared that she is volunteering with the campaign for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and “In terms of my political involvement I am helping DeSantis.” She stressed that DeSantis has not yet confirmed whether he plans to run for President, but “I want to make sure if he does we are ready in PA.”

Havey also confirmed that there is an event still being finalized (and not set in stone) with DeSantis for Monday, February 20, that would involve the Florida governor having a discussion with law enforcement. A location was still being determined according to Havey. From another source, we heard that a location in the Glenside area was being considered.

Montgomery County Republicans will select a new county chair on March 1st during the party’s endorsement convention. A source told us that the likely successor is Plymouth Whitemarsh High School graduate Christian Nascimento. The Lower Providence resident unsuccessfully ran for Congress against Madeleine Dean in 2022. Nascimento was elected to the Methacton School District twice (2009 and 2013) and served as the president of the board for two terms.

More to come.
