The Philadelphia Fight hosted their rugby league’s Grand Final (national championship) this past Saturday in Conshohocken. As I walked to the game, tons of cars parked around the stadium were from all over the country. WIP’s and NBC10’s Howard Eskin showed up to cover the match and interview Phillies legend Mike Schmidt. Channel 6 (ABC) and the Times-Herald were also there to cover the game and it was mentioned in the Daily News. The match was to be broadcast worldwide via the Internet, but so many people from around the world tried to watch that the server crashed four times. 1,300 rugby enthusiasts and locals showed up to enjoy the game and the great weather. It was really a great showing for the Fight and Conshohocken. The Fight are currently bidding to hold the game again next year.
Both Mike Schmidt and Howard were summering in Conshy.
Maloney’s is opening on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m. in the spot formally occupied by the Old Mansion House. Maloney’s is being opened by the Maloney brothers that own Maloney’s in Bryn Mawr. The Conshohocken location is going to be formally titled, “Maloney’s at the Old Mansion House.” This week is a soft opening “Open Hour” initially with Grand Opening celebrations in the near future. RSVP’ing is not necessary for the Wednesday night event, but you can do so here on Facebook.
If you are not sure where Maloney’s is located…drive down Elm heading towards Tee’s (the driving range/putt putt place). It is on your right just before you get to Tee’s.
Keystone Pizza opened in West Conshohocken at 116 Ford Street. They offer pizza, sandwiches, cheesesteaks, etc. They have a dining room, plus you can order take-out or get delivery. Their website is “coming soon.”
After a summer slumber, construction has resumed at El Limon on Fayette Street.
8 East is starting to come together inside. They have announced a September 24th soft opening. Keep you posted.
Pepperoncini celebrated their 5th anniversary on Saturday and Paul and Tommy decided to pick up Liam as a way to celebrate.
The Farmers Market was held this past Saturday. Thank you to those that came out.
Jack Coll, of Coll Custom Framing, has written a new book about the history of Conshohocken and West Conshohocken. He has written several other books about Conshohocken and the surrounding area. You can pick all of his books up at his store at 324 Fayette Street.
A few months ago Cradles to Crayons moved his office and warehouse to West Conshohocken. Cradles to Crayons provides, free of charge, children in need from birth to 12 in the Greater Philadelphia area the basic essentials they need. They also engage adults, teens and children in meaningful volunteer opportunities. Corporate and community volunteers host drives throughout the region to collect goods such as clothing, baby equipment and toys and then clean, sort and process all items in our centrally-located warehouse in West Conshohocken. They partner with a network of social service organizations to distribute donated items to children in need throughout the five-county Philadelphia regions so that all children can feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
