Proposal to replace David’s Bridal building in Conshohocken with apartments and townhouses

High Top Development has submitted a sketch plan to Whitemarsh Township for a proposed 165 unit apartment building and 25 townhouses on the David’s Bridal property at 1001 Washington Street in Conshohocken (Whitemarsh Township). The property is adjacent to the Spring Mill Train Station. You can view the sketch plan here.

What a sketch plan? It is a very preliminary plan that is meant to show the concept, but doesn’t include all the details that are required for approval.

David’s Bridal has been seeking a buyer for the property for several months after entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. High Top currently owns 10 apartment buildings across several neighborhoods in Philadelphia.

The sketch plan shows that the current parking garage for the office building would be kept and five stories of apartments would be constructed above. Each story would have 30 one-bedroom apartments and three with two bedrooms. The office building would be demolished and in its place 25 townhouses would be constructed.

The proposal also shows Washington Street being fully opened with two way traffic. Currently, the David’s Bridal office building is built close to the traffic preventing two way traffic.

The plan details that it will require zoning relief involving the allowable number of units per acre and a conditional use pertaining to the number of floors to move forward.
