A protest has been announced for Tuesday, September 24th, from noon to 1:00 p.m., at the SPCA’s facility at 19 East Ridge Pike in Conshohocken (Whitemarsh Township). The protest was organized by the group behind the website mspcaANIMALS.org, which also has a petition that demands a change in the management of the Montco SPCA.
The protest follows a September 19th article from The Philadelphia Inquirer titled “Euthanasia, understaffing, and broken kennels are rampant at Montco’s ultra-wealthy SPCA” that painted an unflattering picture of the animal-focused charity. One main point of contention is that the charity has $67 million in the bank. However, that money hasn’t been utilized to improve conditions at its facilities, including its main facility in Conshohocken (Whitemarsh Township).
The paper followed up with a second article titled “7 things to know about our investigation into the wealthy, yet rundown, Montco SPCA” on September 23rd, highlighting items from its extensive initial article.
