SEPTA made a presentation during last night’s meeting of Conshohocken’s Borough Council. The presentation involved a new train station about 500′ upriver from its current location and conceptual plans for additional parking.

The new station would be 530′ long and be a high level platform that is fully accessible. The inbound side (to Center City) would have an interior waiting area, canopied waiting areas on the exterior and restrooms.

The outbound side (towards Norristown) would have a sheltered waiting areas.

A new crossing over the tracks would be installed at Oak Street.

The parking situation will not improve, at least not in the immediate future. SEPTA currently offers 86 parking spaces at the station. After the construction of the new station that number would actually be reduced to 82.

There is a conceptual phase 2 of this plan that could create an additional 540 spaces on a surface lot on what is currently privately held land. There is also a study to determine if a parking deck could be built over this possible surface lot.

There is not a current plan for a parking garage.

Construction would start in the summer of 2019. The conceptual phase two is projected for 2021.

Members of Borough Council asked a few questions. They included:

Are you still going to have to walk all the way around to a street crossing to get to the other side of the tracks? Yes, there is no plan for a walkway over the tracks or tunnel.

Can wind screens be added to the outside waiting areas to lessen the impact of weather on those waiting? These were added to a list of things to consider.

Can temporary bathrooms be added to the current station? It was going to be considered.
